the challenge
When I joined as Head of Product Marketing in December 2023, the homepage was a feature-led template inherited from a 2021 build. The hero named the category, “AI-Powered Customer Communication Platform,” and described the product, not the buyer’s day. Every visitor, whether they came from a phone-system search, a PPC ad, or a competitor comparison, met the same category lesson before they met a reason to care.
highlights
- 01Ran six distinct homepage refreshes over 27 months, each one verified in the Wayback Machine, each moving the hero further from “what we are” toward “what we do for you.”
- 02Repositioned from “AI-Powered” to “The All-in-One Business Communication Platform,” unblocking the sales narrative without killing the AI positioning the product team cared about.
- 03Rebuilt the scrolling narrative around paired “problem, shift” panels, tested first through the PPC channel where visitors have no patience for a category lesson.
- 04Put the AI voice agent, AIVA, on the homepage stage with an outcome-led hero, shipping solution pages for AI Receptionist and answering-service intent in parallel.
- 05Rotated a problem-led hook, “The Business Phone System That Does More Than Calling,” against the platform framing for search-intent buyers.
- 06Built refresh six off a canonical Messaging Grid from 50+ customer interviews: the hero became “Stop Losing Customers to Faster Competitors,” generated and fact-checked through a pipeline I built and staged before merge.
the messaging, page by page
Homepage hero, the arc
AI-Powered Customer Communication Platform. Connect with customers, automate workflows, and coach your teams. All from one intuitive platform.
Stop Losing Customers to Faster Competitors. JustCall helps your team reach more prospects, answer every call, follow-up instantly, and scale without adding headcount.
The before names the category and lists what the product does. The after names the buyer’s fear and maps to the four revenue jobs the interviews surfaced: reach, answer, follow-up, scale without headcount.
Where the category label went
By refresh six the category label, “communication platform,” had moved off the hero and into the page title, “The 24/7 Revenue Communication Platform.” The hero was free to speak to the buyer.
A category label still helps search and skimming, but it belongs in the title tag, not in the one line a buyer reads first.
the impact
The homepage arc is the piece owned cleanly, verified snapshot by snapshot. The conversion lifts below are self-reported from the monthly PMM reports.
6
distinct refreshes between December 2023 and March 2026, every hero state verified in the Wayback Machine.
+37%
signups on the AIVA landing-page refresh, with +18% on demo conversions (self-reported, March 2025 report), the first clear CRO lift for an AI product at the company.
50+
customer interviews compiled into the Messaging Grid that refresh six was built from.
why it worked
One axis, six moves — every refresh pushed the same direction, away from the product team’s language toward the buyer’s day, so the arc compounded instead of zig-zagging.
Test where patience is thinnest — the problem-led narrative was proven in the PPC channel first, where a category lesson gets no tolerance, before it reached the main homepage.
Build the pipeline, not just the page — by refresh six the next variant was generated, fact-checked, and staged through a system I built, so iteration moved from quarterly to weekly.
